Public Awareness

Statistics from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs are staggering. There are now 24.5 million living veterans in the United States. Nearly 2.6 are service-connected disabled and over 9 million are age 65 or older.

There are now over 100 state run and state funded veteran long-term care homes. These homes are available exclusively to qualified veterans and their spouses. Yet, four out of five people you meet on the street have no idea such facilities exist. The number one problem facing potential claimants, is not knowing these homes, and other services, are available to them.

That is where the Disabled Veterans Associations fits in. Since 1998, we have combined efforts with more than 3,500 radio stations throughout the country to inform veterans these state homes are available to them.

Any veterans, or anyone who cares about a veteran, can call our toll-free number for assistance on all benefits available to veterans. The number is 1-866-331-1944.

Providing veterans and their family members free, immediate, over-the-phone emergency response services, including crisis intervention, emotional support, community referrals, and educational information by trained volunteers.
